Judi Lyon
I talked to Edward Z Lyon in Hemet CA. He is the
father of Judi Lyon (not Judy Lyon Rehfeld). He says
she died "about 15 years ago". That would be about
1995 (+-?). She lived in California but I did not ask
where. I asked her married name (Snyder) but not her
husband's first name. She died of a medical condition
but her father did not recall what it was. Judi is
one of the "lost" classmates that Dorothy especially
wanted me to find. Dorothy was pretty good friends
with Judi, partly because Judi was the concertmaster
of the high school orchestra. I did not ask Judi's
father any more questions. I have been unable to find
Judi on the Social Security Death Index to get a more
accurate date of her death.

Peggy Ruth Hauck
On Thursday, October 9, 2008, at about 8:35 am, our mom, Peggy Ruth (Hauck) quietly and peacefully passed away. The Mesothelioma developed silently, without warning, over many years, caused by apparent asbestos exposure, a mystery to us all. Unfortunately. We didn't have much warning.

She passed on about 2 months after receiving the diagnosis, and we sought all the medical care that was available to us, which included a trip to Boston. Peggy remained healthy, beautiful, loving, and vibrant throughout the journey, despite the pain, uncertainty, and grim prognosis. We were very proud of her prevailing spirit.  She was surrounded by her family during the complete ordeal, knowing she was very loved. She left us, knowing we were near. We know her beloved Leon, her husband of almost 38 years, was waiting to greet her in the "afterlife".

Please remember her, with her vibrant, long red hair, vivacious spirit, and beautiful warm smile, that defined her. We know how much she enjoyed the last class reunion she attended with all of you. Be well... Love and Light to you.

Dave Duncan.

Dr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Jane H. Duncan, of the home, three children, and three grandchildren. The preceding was published in the Kansas City Star on 12/14/2008.
We received the following message from
John Anderson on January 13th...

"I have spoken to Janie a couple of times and thought I would pass along a brief summary of a sad story about one of my favorite classmates.
"Dave was in Desert Storm 18 years ago where he contracted Hepatitus C, which appears to be the underlying culprit.  It has a 20 year "watch period."  In early November, he started feeling poorly.  Getting worse, right after Thanksgiving he went to the doctor, who referred him to a gastroenterologist who then did a CT Scan. The doctor called Janie with the results and told her that Dave had a huge mass in his liver and that there was nothing they could do. This was around the first of December. Dave died on Dec. 11.
"This was all unexpected and happened with lightening speed.  Unbelievable, and just when Dave was getting his feet back on the ground.  He had regained his medical license and was a radiologist at the VA hospital in Fayetteville, NC.
"Janie is still in shock, but doing ok. She still has her sense of humor and giddy laugh. Sometime later in the year she plans to move back to Wichita."

Toni Kross Levine.
Monday, Oct. 27. We have just learned this morning of the passing of our classmate Toni Cross Levine some time early in September, due to a stroke. Although a Kansas City resident, for some reason, there was no obituary in the Kansas City Star at the time. If any of you know more details about Toni, we would appreciate hearing from you. Toni had emailed us in early August that she had been ill and was getting better.
Anne Schluter.
We are sorry to learn of Anne's passing, which happened in her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 18th where she had lived since 1961. The writeup from the Kansas City Star can be accessed by clicking here.
Bill Crow.
A kind and gentle man, a classmate and a Vietnam veteran, Bill Crow, passed away on August 19, 2008, at the Eisenhower Veterans Administration Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas. The writeup from the Kansas City Star can be accessed by clicking here.

Dave Moak.
The quarterback of the Shawnee-Mission East football team when we were seniors has left us. A kind and gentle soul and who was a friend to all, was loved by pretty much anyone who knew him, had suffered from cancer and passed away on August 12. The Kansas City Star obituary was woefully brief and one would hope that additional words about Dave's life will somehow appear there. We last saw Dave when he attended our 40th Anniversary Reunion in 2000. Bless you, sir. You will be sorely missed by us all. Click here to read the very nice writeup that appeared in The Kansas City Star on August 27th.

Later she attended the University of Hawaii where she earned a Masters degree in Library Science. She stayed in Hawaii and worked as a Librarian for the State Prison System. Kay was committed, compassionate and caring.  She brought library services throughout Hawaii to those who were incarcerated, confined or isolated in prisons, hospitals or on Kalaupapa, a Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Settlement.

After leaving her job with the Corrections System in Hawaii, she returned to Kansas to be nearer family.

She had suffered from multiple health problems for several years and died peacefully in her sleep on December 16, 2009. (From Sheree Shiel Murphy)
